Second-generation Moto Razr may come later this year

It looks like Motorola is working on the next-generation Moto Razr, the foldable phone it launched earlier this year. A senior Motorola executive seems to have dropped a big hint regarding this. According to a report by Android Authority, Thibault Dousson, South Africa general manager of Lenovo, appeared on a podcast where he mentioned a new generation foldable phone a couple of times. The second-generation Moto Razr (name unconfirmed) will apparently hit the markets later this year.

Dousoon made an appearance on Reframed Tech podcast where he said in reference to the Moto Razr, “there is a new generation coming out”, before adding, “there’s one in September I think.” This wasn’t the only occasion during the podcast when the Lenovo executive — Lenovo owns Motorola’s phone division — spoke about the second generation foldable phone.

The Moto Razr in its new avatar has received a mixed bag of response so far. Critics haven’t been overtly impressed by the Razr as certain issues with the display have cropped up. The other thing that has been noted by many is the price of the Moto Razr. The Razr in India is selling on Flipkart for Rs 1,24,999.

Motorola has packed in an OLED display by using a flexible material. The Razr has a 6.2-inch CinemaVision foldable display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor.

Motorola isn’t the only company that is planning to launch successors to its existing foldable phones. Samsung too is expected to launch another foldable phone in 2020 whereas rumours about Huawei launching a foldable device have also been doing the rounds. So far, these three big brands have been the major forces in the foldable smartphone market. The likes of Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi have reportedly been working on foldable devices but there is no word on when and if they would launch one.
